Roosters Mourn Passing Of Bruce Monie
The Woy Woy Roosters regret to advise of the passing of Roosters great Bruce Monie aged 55, after a long and brave battle with cancer.
A member of the Roosters most famous footballing family, Bruce Monie played his junior Rugby League with the Roosters in the 1960s before graduating to grade football along with his brothers Bill and John.
While playing First Grade with both Umina and Erina Bruces' heart was always with the Roosters, where he returned in 1975 to play a major part in arguably some of the best Roosters teams ever fielded.
Bruce played in the Centres in the Roosters First Grade Premiership wins in 1975 and 1976, over Wyong and Erina respectively. In 1975 Bruce linked brilliantly with both his brothers John and Bill to lead the Roosters to victory and the following year Bruce played alongside Bill who captained Woy Woy to the Premiership.
Many honours were bestowed on Bruce during his time with the Roosters. In 1976 Bruce was named the second recipient of the Merv & Muriel Condren trophy as the Club's First Grade Best & Fairest Player. In 2001 he was named as a member of the Woy Woy Roosters Team Of The Century, an honour he proudly shared with both his brothers.
The thoughts and prayers of everyone associated with the Club are extended to the Monie family at this sad time.
